Meg

It didn’t take the group long to gather their belongings and say their farewells to Fox, Danica, and the townsfolk. Everyone was sad to see them leave, knowing they were losing some of their protection, but even in the sadness and fear, Megara recognized how elated they were. In every village the Guardians stopped in, they brought relief and joy. The Seelie remembered what it was like before the Unseelie took over, and they were excited to see the world they had come to know be restored.

Trust was still hard to come by, but the villagers were trying. They wanted to live in the happiness that once reigned instead of the fear they had become familiar with. After the people watched how they fought for them over and over, they recognized it would have been selfish to keep them there. The whole of Flouria deserved to be saved and protected, not just a single village.

Megara wasn’t sure if their presence there had been the best protection. If anything, she thought they drew more of the Mist and its defiled creatures to the area rather than protecting them. Everyone was entitled to their opinions, though, so Meg kept her mouth shut and accepted their kindness. She knew, eventually, their group would find their way back to the village to visit one day.

That always seemed to be the answer—one day.

It should have scared all of them here, but it didn’t. The further Megara and the others walked from the village and back to The Lost Land, the more confident she felt. Deep inside her soul, she knew this was the right decision, and not just because Justice had a vision of it. There was something inside her calling her back. Their journey wasn’t over and wouldn’t be any time soon.

“Did anyone else notice that we keep passing patches of dead land that I am certain was healed last time we traveled through here?” Maverick asked, pulling Meg back to the present.

Now that he mentioned it, she noticed the same. On their right, the land was healed, beautiful, and full of life. The trees had a glow to them that Meg could only contribute to the magic in the ground providing a nice hue that made her smile every time she saw it. She couldn’t believe this was the world she was from and where she was going to make a living when they saved everyone.

On their left, though, was a whole different story. The land was dead, baren. The only thing that remained was a weird green and purple goop that hung off ashen trees. The sight broke her heart, and I’m sure everyone else's. She hated seeing the land suffering because of the Unseelie. They didn’t care what they destroyed on their path to control and power. So many lives were hurt and lost. The magic of the land had been disappearing more and more every day.

“Meg?” Nessa queried softly from Meg’s left.

The suddenness of her voice made Meg jump slightly. She wasn’t expecting to have anyone beside her but Maverick.
